– News about Quincy from Quincy Quarry News

Quincy traffic warning sign dangerously covered and turned sideways.

Traffic safety concerns clearly appear to be readily found throughout Quincy and this particular one was brought to Quincy Quarry’s attention by one of its Citizen Video Journalists.

As one can see – if one does not blink, that is – from exclusive Quincy Quarry video, a vital traffic warning sign with a blinking light safety feature so as to warn drivers of an upcoming traffic light at a busy intersection that is hidden from sight just around the bend is itself largely hidden by overgrowth.

Further troubling, this important traffic safety warning sign is also inexplicably sideways.

Given the often high rate of speed of vehicles coming off of Highway 3 onto Burgin Parkway, one cannot understand why this thus important traffic safety signage is so dangerously less then effectively operative.

As best it could, Quincy Quarry endeavored to discern who is responsible for the sign.

For example, per various City of Quincy property maps, the maps did not detail any details as to the site of the sign’s ownership.

Adjacent parcels, however, were mostly noted as state-owned for both the off ramp off of Highway 3 as well as the Burgin Parkway overpass bypass ramp for traffic heading out of the Q.

Conversely, a number of other parcels closer to Burgin Parkway’s intersection with Centre Street are noted as City of Quincy-owned property or as private property, such as the new Deco Apartments building hard upon the corner of the busy Burgin Parkway and Centre Street intersection and which is opposite the busy Quincy Adams MBTA station and thus touted as public transit-friendly.

Regardless of the technical ownership of the sign, one cannot help but wonder why the City of Quincy does not do whatever it takes to see that this important – if not vital – traffic warning sign is duly righted and the overgrowth cleared so as to help better assure both traffic and  pedestrian safety.

After all, with Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch is both the Chair of the MBTA Advisory Board as well as said to be the Governor’s little buddy – at least as far as the South Shore is concerned, one would think that effecting a fix would be – at most – a two call proposition.

Whether – or not – anything is done to only properly rectify this obviously troubling traffic safety concern anytime soon remains to perhaps be seen.
