Quincy Fore River new bridge coming up short?
In yet another hard-hitting Quincy Quarry Citizen Journalist exposé, rumor has it that the arching roadway span currently under construction in the former Fore River Shipyard for use in a new Fore River Bridge is coming up short on its design specifications.
Specifically, rumor has it that the shortfall is roughly eleven inches.
Exactly how this rumored shortcoming may have happened or might have been done by whom, however, is not yet certain.
Word of this rumored shortcoming was inadvertently overheard uttered by a Quincy Quarry Citizen Journalist at a South Quincy barbershop while a bridge worker having his hair cut.
Granted, while claims of athletic prowess, the size of fish caught or the number of sexual conquests uttered at a barbershop are all but invariably overblown, grousing at a barbershop about managerial screw-ups at work is usually at least somewhat close to accurate.

Regardless, as this roadway span is a key component of the impending new vertical lift bridge to replace the current temporary as well as also problematic vertical bridge over the Fore River, that the pending replacement bridge’s roadway span might be a bit short could present new problems.
For example, apparently it is not readily possible to make the rumored to be short span work as is or otherwise.
Additionally, one would like to hope that it is perhaps simply unacceptable to accept the rumored short roadway span on this federally funded and Massachusetts Department of Transportation overseen project.
In the meanwhile, official word of this rumored shortcoming has yet to be announced, much less any word if this already running late project might be further delayed.
As it is, this project is already almost two years behind schedule given earlier problems and could now end up running even further behind schedule.

Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to Quincy’s Mayor Thomas P. Koch for comment on this White-Skanska Koch $244.6 million joint venture construction project; however, the Quarry knew that it would not receive a response from Mayor Koch and thus moved on to other stories.
Regardless, given the considerable impact any further delay would have on just commuters’ already stressed psyches, Quincy Quarry’s ever growing legions of loyal readers can rest assured that it will do all that it can to see that an official statement on this rumored shortcoming is provided as soon as possible.
