Quincy among the 20 cities in Massachusetts with the most children living in poverty
Per a recent article in the Boston Business Journal, Quincy was ranked at seventeenth among Massachusetts cities that have the highest percentages of children living in poverty in these cities per state education data.
Fully half of the children attending public schools in Quincy come from low-income households.
Particularly troubling per Quincy Quarry’s review of the data is that the growth of children living in poverty in Quincy has grown faster than most of the other 20 cities with the highest percentages of children living in poverty across the whole of Massachusetts.
The number of student coming from low income households has grown by 33% since 2009 whereas the rate of growth of low income students in other cities was lower for most one city to one city comparisons.
Further troubling is that the rate of growth in low-income students in Quincy was also higher than the average combined rates of growth for the other 19 cities on the list.
Quincy Quarry readers are encouraged to both read the article as well as review the data and slideshow accompanying the article.
