Quincy former contenders for mayor offer their endorsements for Phelan for mayor.
In follow up to Quincy Quarry’s earlier scooping of all other local media’s coverage with its coverage of School Committee member Anne Mahoney and City Councillor Doug Mahoney announcing their endorsements of former Mayor Bill Phelan to again become the Mayor of Quincy, the Quarry now follows up with photos and comments from the endorsers and the endorsed.

The two now former challengers for mayor accompanied the remaining challenger still in the hunt to defeat embattled incumbent Mayor Thomas P. Koch to a flash mob photo op endorsements announcement event in front of the long in a mess City Hall – both physically as well as otherwise.
While all three were respectful of the each other on the campaign trail while they conversely hammered on the myriad of flaws of the duly embattled incumbent Mayor Thomas P. Koch, the speed with which longtime School Committee member Anne Mahoney and even longer time City Councillor Doug Gutro throw their support to former Mayor Bill Phelan was still telling.

Mrs. Mahoney spoke first as well as did so with all the passion and eloquence for which she has long been known.
Comments offered by her were more than just a rewrite of campaign stump speeches and press releases.  Rather, her comments were a solid and comprehensive review of what all has gone wrong as well as often in Quincy during the current administration.
Mahoney also noted that while she has not always agree with Phelan over the years, he was always willing to listen to what she had to say as well as was open to rethinking his position, unlike the current incumbent in City Hall.

City Councillor Doug Gutro next took the podium and he too spoke of his many frustrations with the current administration in City Hall, ranging from running late and way over budget projects to a near opaque lack of transparency.
Not only did he also add that he agreed with Mahoney that Phelan would listen to his views when on occasion they did not agree, he underscored his comment syb noting that his 14 years on the council fully spanned both Phelan’s six years as mayor and the current mayor’s eight years in office and that his experiences during the latter so underscored his decision to endorse Phelan.

Candidate Phelan then took the podium and opened with graciously first acknowledging their attendance and then thanking his new supporters for their support of him.
The former mayor and seeking to be mayor again then spoke at some length as to the myriad of problems with the current mayor.
Fortunately for the time concerns of those in attendance, he held his comments to the top ten or so top of the list of innumerable problems with the current mayor.

After wrapping up, questions were taken from the audience and to Quincy Quarry’s ear, none appeared to be foisted by shill plants.  Solid responses were provided and the formal presentation then ended.
Many attendees then stuck around to congratulate the challenger and well wish the former challengers.
While it was not readily possible to see who all inside of the glass City Hall annex were watching given its one way mirror glass cladding, it was still interesting to observe the faces of those who were coming and going from City Hall during this endorsement event held in front of what currently passes for the main entrance into City Hall.
Expect further coverage from Quincy Quarry as this heavyweight title bout rematch continues until the final bell.
