– News about Quincy MA from Quincy Quarry News.
Quincy double streetlights overkill and traffic safety hazards?
First Quincy long suffered double utility polls – and now it is looking to have its new double streetlight poles struck by motor vehicles.
Previously, Quincy Quarry reported on how Quincy Center streetlights were ending up in the gutter.
Then, rather than address the problem, these lights were instead protected by Jersey Barriers and so further restricting the vehicle capacity on the increasing mean as well as narrowing streets of Quincy Center.
Now, however, the new streetlights have been installed along the sidewalk and thus out of the gutter.

At the same time, old streetlights still remain down and out in the gutter.
Even more troubling, the Jersey barriers have been removed and it is thus surely on a matter of time before one is struck by a passing motor vehicle operator and probably operating under the influence.
Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to Quincy’s Ward 4 City Councillor Brian Palmucci for comment as he has long been the designated local scold of utilities companies over their not exactly quick removal of double utility poles around the Q.
On the hand, in fairness to the utilities defense, while drunk drivers are to be expected, utilities companies do not hold any manner of liquor license.

Still, while there has long been ample reason to seek to improve the lighting in Quincy Center given clear as well as substantial public safety concerns, there are conversely obvious, if not also grave concerns.
For example, hastening Global Warming. given that most electrical power in Eastern Massachusetts is produced at fossil fuel-fueled power plants.
Additionally, there is the problem of Light Pollution upon the night sky and so impacting both local astronomers looking out into the cosmos as well as those seeking a romantic evening glazing at stars from the backseats of their cars given the extra bright lighting the increasingly mean streets of Quincy at night.
Quincy Quarry will continue to seek to bring this story into the light of day.
