– News about Quincy MA from Quincy Quarry News.
Quincy city officials apparently had a signage snit in Quincy Center recently.
A new business bravely – if not perhaps also ill-advisedly – opened up in Quincy Center in recent weeks, only to be hit with complaints from city officials over its signage.
While Quincy Quarry is honoring the so-hassled business’ request for entirely understandable anonymity, the Quarry did look into other local businesses’ signage practices.
As a result, Quincy Quarry frequently found that impermanent and thus arguably causal signage is common at many Quincy businesses both long established as well as those more recently opened.
The range of signage so found was so diverse as to suggest no rhyme – much any reason – for any sort of local signage ordinance enforcement other than apparently it all depends.

For example, Quincy Quarry’s found a very large banner hanging up inside of the window of a local business tightly connected to a city-owned operation.
Similarly, the Quarry found that the hassled store’s placement in its front window of a small battery-operated red, white and blue faux neon LED light “OPEN” sign roughly the size of a personal-sized frozen pizza in the store’s front window is similar to ones commonly used by many other local businesses – and yet apparently only the hassled business was hassled over its innocuous little open sign.

Additionally, Quincy Quarry found City of Quincy personnel apparently as well as perhaps also blithely ignoring the posting of large temporary promotional paper posters taking up most of one commercial building’s windows while the city personnel apparently dined late in the afternoon at this local fast food eatery while parked out back and so out of the public eye – but not that of Quincy Quarry’s crack-addled photographic personnel.
Then again, given that dining is a duly embattled Koch Maladministration favorite activity, why shouldn’t such also be the case for city employees?

Conversely, there are instances – however admittedly rare – when attractive temporary window signage would appear possible even though such signage would still appear to be excessive per applicable local ordinances.
At the same time, beauty is apparently in the eye of the city inspector as well as might also be further influenced by the fact that some local businesses at least occasionally cater duly embattled Koch Maladministration private meetings.
Similarly, perhaps there is something to at least be considered as regards the fact that the above noted new business hassled by city officials is not owned and operated by those of Western European descent.
Fortunately, however, this new blood in the Q pursuing the American Dream pushed back and the City then apparently backed off on its hassling.
