– News about Quincy MA from Quincy Quarry News
Is Quincy suffering from too much past praise that has resulted in raging narcissism?
Media are abuzz over a recent study out of Ohio State that found that too much praising of children can have profoundly corrosive impacts; specifically, fueling narcissism.
Why many may scoff about this study, Origins of Narcissism in Children, as yet another social psychology research study with a keen sense of the obvious, it does have solid research design methodology behind it.
That and the study’s findings were published in a major academic journal, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.

As for any potential implications for Quincy, Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to Quincy Mayor Koch given his concurrent role as Chair of the School Committee.
That and his at least weekly video and audio podcasts produced at Koch Studios, née Quincy Community Access Television, a penchant for photo ops and his breathtaking assertion made during a campaign debate that he is a parental favorite.
Unfortunately, accessing the mayor was not possible as his schedule is apparently booked solid with staff meetings with mostly yes men and the very occasional as well as all but invariably ignored female.

Additionally, Quincy Quarry suspects that Mayor Koch all but assuredly does not care to meet with it under any and all circumstances.
In any event, the costs of narcissism are often more than just an expensive clothes habit or spending too much coloring one’s hair.
In fact, the societal costs can be considerable.
For example, bad decisions by the self-absorbed in positions of power can have lasting and sometimes also catastrophic consequences.
Bad outcomes inflicted by narcissists can include ineffectual designs that long burden others, years of financial expense paying for bad decisions, even whole generations lost because someone felt her or usually his idea was a good idea at the time but unfortunately no one spoke up that the idea was not exactly a great idea, if not also crossing over into the realm of moronic.

A related, and even darker other side of the coin not as obvious as the aforementioned study’s more obvious findings is that bad decisions are never seen by any narcissist as his fault (note: Narcissistic Personality Disorder is widely viewed as a male behavioral pathology as well as all but only perhaps manageable as opposed to actually successfully treatable).
Whenever the grandiose plans of a narcissist fail, and as they all too often eventually do, it is always the narcissist’s view that others and/or external events undermined the plan even if the plan was utterly preposterous in the first place EVEN if those tasked to implement it came close to actually executing the impossible.

For example, while Field Marshal Erwin Rommel has received considered praise for the ultimately failed German African campaign during World War II wherein he did accomplish much with not all that much other than suffering constant meddling while also suffering Italian Army officers misleading actually hard fighting Italian solders, all but forgotten except to military scholars and aficionados is the amazingly effective performance of eventual Chief of Staff of the (German) Army Heinz Wilhelm Guderian.
Things largely forgotten about Guderian include that he was arguably the prime agent behind the development of Blitzkrieg as a master strategy.  He also almost succeeded in defeating Russia in spite of his having to long and often suffer an especially notorious as well as meddlesome narcissist who was also variously otherwise notorious.
Even more amazing, Guderian not only survived both repeated standings up against Hitler as well as World War II, he also eventually enjoyed a relatively quiet retirement as opposed to serving long and hard time in, say, Spandau Prison in westernmost borough of Berlin.Yes and no marked just say no | quincy news
In short, just maybe in certain other instances Nancy Reagan was right: “Just say no.”
