Quincy’s fire-ravaged City Hall is again at risk as adjacent fire hydrants on City of Quincy property are yet again buried in snow.

Deeply buried.

Quincy Quarry did not bother reaching out to the long and variously challenged Quincy Fire Department Chief Joseph Barron for comment as it can only reasonably be assumed that he has been told not to be available for comment to any and all inquiries from Quincy Quarry.

Hydrant? What hydrant?

That and Chief Barron surely has enough trouble rolling out fire trucks in response to emergency calls on the ever-increasingly narrow “goat paths” that pass for streets in the Q without Quincy Quarry adding to his worries.

Fortunately, Quincy Quarry can report that the Quincy Fire Department has just announced the launch of an adopt a fire hydrant program and which local businesses have supported with gift certificates for raffle prizes for hydrant adopters.

How well this program plays out remains to seen, but it would appear that the always hard-working crew at Presidents Place is already on board with the program.

Presidents Place well-cleared first thing as usual; adjacent street, not so much as well as also as usual.

In the meanwhile, what is amazing to Quincy Quarry is that Quincy’s photo op maven nonpareil Mayor Thomas P. Koch had the good sense to realize that this was probably not an ideal photo op opportunity for him regardless of the obvious shoveling angle.

Then again, are there any ideal photo ops for him at this point?
