– News about Quincy MA from Quincy Quarry News

Quincy schools finally reopened late on Wednesday after six days of Snow Days.

Quincy schools were among the but handful of Eastern Massachusetts school districts to open late today in the wake of the Ground Hog Day’s Day storm as well as one of an even smaller number to have been closed since last week’s Blizzard of 2015.

The putative key reason for the extended local schools closings is that the City of Quincy Department of Public Works and Park & Forestry personnel were apparently overwhelmed.

As it further turned out, City snow removal personnel were still racing to complete snow clearing at at least one of the two largest local public schools within the final hour before local schools were slated to reopen at 10 AM on Wednesday.

While students were hoping for even more Snow Days, on the ragged edge parents were ecstatic that schools will finally reopen today even if today’s late opening pretty much makes a mess of their days.

On a positive note, Quincy Quarry was pleased to see that Quincy Police Chief and surely but coincidentally mayoral brother-in-law Paul “The Beav” Keenan actually had a contingency plan in place to provide traffic details when local public schools finally did reopen.

At the same time, there is still no word of any additonal plans in place to respond if any already beyond merely on the edge parents finally go over the edge and into The Heart of Darkness.

Key to this long ongoing Quarry concern is that local parents may still go postal during the return to some semblance of normally as this transition time is potentially even more stressful until things might eventually achieve something approximating homeostasis.
That and managing to muddle through next week’s feared snow storm as well as any and all that might follow.

In the meanwhile, local supermarkets are preparing for hordes of parents spending their time shopping and then waiting in long checkout lines between today’s late start of school and the too soon following end of the school day given that many local households have surely been eaten out of house and home by their snowbound progeny.

That and the usual panic-driven shopping in anticipation of more Snow Days yet to come.

Rumor has it that at least one major chain plans to bring in crisis management teams as well as extra security given that their baked goods suppliers have not able to meet the recent massive demand for sandwich bread and dairy cows can only produce so much milk even if extra-dosed with production-enhancing artificial hormones.

At minimum, all supermarkets are expected to be implementing take a number machines in both their baked goods and dairy sections.

Expect Quincy Quarry to continue with its unique coverage of the looking to be very long Winter of 2015.
