Just when one thought things could not get any worse, they did when a Red Line train was crippled by a frozen third rail during Monday evening commute.
Massive electrical flow running through third rails notwithstanding, yesterday was apparently cold enough to chill a third rail near the MBTA’s Braintree station and so cripple Red Line operations.
Accordingly, Quincy Quarry is thus endeavoring to find out from its sources both high but mostly low if Purgatory has also frozen over.

Eyewitness accounts report that last night the narrow and snow-lined goat paths that currently pass for the ever-increasingly mean streets of Quincy were filled with suspected stranded commuters slogging and slipping their ways home.
With many local sidewalks buried deep with frozen boulders of snow tossed upon them by City-controlled snowplows, Quincy Mayor Tom “Cupcakes” Koch surely inadvertently announced an all but de facto defeat by his administration to effect public safety in the Q.
At the same time, Koch failed to offer any additional ill-advised statements as to when things in Quincy might merely return to merely but chaos.

For example, Quincy Public Schools remain closed as likely to remain so for some time yet to come and thus local parents are ever increasingly on edge.
Conversely, both the MBTA and recently inaugurated Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker stepped up to the mike to forthrightly tell the frozen and often stranded public that it will take at least several days before things return to something approaching normal.
In particular, after maturing taking his lumps for problems that date back far before even his unsuccessful 2012 candidacy, Baker announced that he will do all that he can to see currently mired plans to upgrade MTBA infrastructure at least slow-tracked.
Knowing Charlie as well as Quincy Quarry does, it looks forward to seeing actual progress actually happen.

At the same time, especially obvious was no mention by Charlie of any special assistance for Quincy’s myriad of local and often City Hall-inflicted problems.
Rumors abound that the straw that broke the camel’s back was that while the Koch Maladministration did an excellent job of keeping the City’s City Hall employee & VIP Commuter parking lot in front of the Quincy Center MBTA Station constantly plowed down to the pavement during the recent record snowfall, the City’s plows apparently plied up snow on the MBTA Police Department’s designated parking spaces in front of the station.
This, in turn, surely so made a long ongoing turf feud even worse.
In short, it appears that Charlie and Tom’s recent bromance is truly over and done.
