A woman dies in Arizona after being hit by Uber self-driving SUV.

 

In a tragedy long awaited by personal injury attorneys, a woman crossing a street was killed by an Uber self-driving sport utility vehicle in Arizona late Sunday night/before sunrise, police said on Monday.

 

A spokesman for Uber Technologies Inc said the company was suspending its North American tests.  In a tweet, Uber expressed its condolences and said the company was fully cooperating with authorities.

    It will be a very long time until self driving cars are safe. The conditions and situations a self driving car can encounter are nearly infinite and the computer must handle them all correctly. What happens when a highway is full of self driving cars and the computer freezes on one of them? I can see major pileups in those situations. How many times does your computer freeze?
