Seventh Fleet commander relieved in the wake of ship collisions.

The U.S. Navy on Wednesday said that it had removed Seventh Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin after the latest in a series of four collisions involving U.S. warships in Pacific this year.

While more typically the captain of a U. S. Navy ship involved in a collusion is the one under fire – and one report states that three senior officers on this latest struck ship were relieved of duty, Admiral Aucion come up from the ranks as a navigator and such poses obvious potential bases for his month early relief as the commander of the Seventh Fleet.

In any event, this latest collision involved the USS John S. McCain.  The McCain is named for father and son admirals who were the grandfather and father of U.S. Senator John S. McCain III.
