Nestled across the street from the old Souther Tide Mill on Southern Artery in Quincy Point in a nondescript storefront location is the gem for Northern Indian cuisine that is the Punjab Cafe.

Aromas of fragrant and exotic spices immediately greet as one enters and so too does the restaurant’s welcoming and friendly staff.

Punjab Cafe offers a quiet and pleasant atmosphere – and of special importance to this reviewer is how both the public spaces of this restaurant and especially its kitchen are always immaculate.

Granted, there are other good Indian restaurants in Quincy, but this one could well be the only Indian restaurant in the Q with an authentic Tandoor oven in its kitchen.  This is notable as this type of oven yields a flavorful and delicious difference on Kababs, Tandoori chicken as well as other grilled meats and is thus a prime indicator of a proper purveyor of Indian cuisine.

And speaking of prime, the weekend lunch buffet is a weekend destination for Indian food connoisseurs as well as reasonably priced.

For those who love lamb, the Saag with its creamy spinach sauce or the spicy Vindaloo will not disappoint!

Also note that the Goat Marsala is a tender treat – even for those not accustomed to dining on goat meat – that is slow simmered in a spicy and creamy tomato sauce.

And for a rice option, the vegetarian Biryani rice with toasted nuts and fruit is spiced to perfection.

Menu options are plentiful.  Even better, the fish and shrimp are fresh, the lamb, chicken and goat dishes are all tender and succulent, and the vegetarian dishes feature fresh produce.

Further note that any Marsala dish at Punjab Cafe is well-worth consideration!

For those either unable to decide what to order or are somewhat unfamiliar with Indian cuisine, Punjab’s mixed grill is an excellent choice.  This menu offering features a sizzling array of meats cooked to perfection in the restaurant’s Tandoor oven and served over a bed of sautéed onions, a side of fluffy Basmati rice and a choice of nan.

Eight different nan are offered with each sinfully deliciously and many stuffed with a savory fillings.  As such, those who cannot decide on which nan to order can opt to order a sampler basket of three different styles of nan.

Also note that Punjab is especially considerate of its patrons’ preferred level of spicing, be it mild, medium, hot or extra hot.  Ask for heat – or not – and ye shall receive!

Additionally, be sure to consider sampling Punjab’s selection of imported Indian beers, one of its fresh Indian smoothies or its homemade chai offering as a refreshing balance to its spicy menu offerings.

Punjab Cafe offers masterful sauces, toasted and roasted spices, fresh ingredients, a wide range of both vegetarian and meat offerings as well as satisfying portions at reasonable prices, especially given the high quality of both food preparation and service.

Bring a friend, share items ordered and expect to return often as Punjab Cafe never disappoints.
